 Il y a quelques mois votre serviteur vous avait déjà fait part de son enthousiasme à propos du groupe hollandais VOICST (ici).
Désireux de continuer dans cette voie, qui est de vous faire découvrir ce trio, nous avons fait le déplacement en Hollande afin de faire plus amplement connaissance avec VOICST (cf. interview : ici) mais aussi d’avoir la chance de les voir se produire sur scène, chez eux à Amsterdam, face à leur public.
C’est donc dans cette optique que rendez-vous avait été pris dans la mythique salle du Melkweg en ce samedi 27 mai.
LE MELKWEG
Tout d’abord un petit mot sur ce lieu au passé riche qui depuis 30 ans est un acteur majeur de la vie culturelle d’Amsterdam, et a vu défiler bon nombre d’artistes de tous poils. Le MELKWEG (« Voie Lactée » en français, dont le bâtiment est une ancienne fabrique de lait, est bien plus qu’une simple salle de concert, puisqu’en son sein sont également présents une galerie d’art, un cinéma, un théâtre et un petit restaurant/café.
Cet ensemble d’activités artistiques propose ainsi un brassage fort intéressant pour quiconque se rend en ce lieu et prend le temps de le parcourir, participant ainsi à l’ouverture d’esprit des plus curieux.
Nous noterons aussi au passage les prix pratiqués pour les consommations, dont les salles françaises feraient bien d’en prendre bonne note, puisque la bière (indicateur standard dans ce genre d’endroit) est à 2,10 €.
On est loin des tarifs honteux, avoisinant souvent les 4€, auxquels nous faisons face en France…
Enfin, la configuration de la salle dans laquelle va se produire VOICST est pour le moins sympathique et chaleureuse, proposant notamment un balcon permettant à tout un chacun de voir dans les meilleures conditions.
Soulignons, pour conclure sur le Melkweg, que la location géographique de celui-ci est on ne plus central (au niveau de la place Leidseplein). Ceci est un réel atout. Un lieu que nous vous encourageons donc à découvrir si vous êtes de visite à Amsterdam.
Endroit idéal donc, où nous allons avoir la possibilité d’apprécier la prestation de VOICST, qui aujourd’hui est bien entendu la tête d’affiche de la soirée et se produira devant une salle comble.
VOICST LIVE : PLACE A LA CONFIRMATION
Franchement, c’est incroyable à quel point certains produits en provenance de Hollande peuvent rendre accro.
C’est exactement le cas de VOICST qui, à l’inverse de ce-à-quoi-vous-pensez, peut se consommer sans aucun danger pour la santé.
Au contraire, la musique du trio néerlandais devrait même être classée dans la catégorie des médicaments redynamisants, luttant contre la morosité et les coups de blues. Le tout remboursé par la Sécu.
Vous pouvez en abuser il n’y a aucun risque de surdose ! C’est ce que nous ferons ce soir pendant la petite heure que durera le set proposé par le groupe.
Les membres bien en place et assurément aguerris à la scène vont tout donner. Comme nous l’avions déjà mentionné lors de leur prestation au Trabendo, Tjeerd ne tient pas en place, occupe l’intégralité de son espace scénique et rentre littéralement en transe avec les morceaux qu’il interprète.
La set-list fait bien entendu la part belle à « 11-11 », leur premier album, et des titres comme « Dazzled Kids » ou « Whatever You Want From Life » sont bien entendu des hits ici en Hollande et déchaînent les passions dans le public. Il nous sera même rapporté qu’un couple a été surpris en pleins ébats dans la partie balcon de la salle ! (Pendant « Porn » peut-être ;-)
Le répertoire de VOICST, énergique s’il en est, colle à merveille au jeu de Joppe, le batteur, qui fait preuve d’une frappe puissante mais juste.
Toutefois le groupe l’a déjà démontré soit sur album soit en live acoustique, il sait aussi donner dans un registre plus calme, soft sans pour autant tomber dans la mielleux tout comme avec « Detail 2003 » qui nous permettra de souffler un peu. Ce morceau, certes figurant sur « 11-11 », est en fait apparu pour la première fois sur le tout premier méfait discographique du groupe, le EP « Eat The Evidence » (ici) paru en 2003. Tout comme « Act Of Fire » avec lequel le groupe avait ouvert les hostilités ce soir.
N’oublions pas au passage le jeu tout en classe de Sven qui, en plus d’être un élément indispensable à l’entité scénique VOICST, se trouve aussi être un multi-instrumentiste de premier choix, ce dernier délaissant régulièrement sa basse au profit d’une seconde guitare.
Malheureusement, toute bonne chose a une fin et le gig se finira sur un «Enjoy the Kickback » survitaminé qui achèvera physiquement le groupe tout comme l’audience présente.
Assurément l’un des concerts de l’année qui valait largement le déplacement.
Le show de ce soir nous aura donc conforté dans nos premières impressions d’avril dernier. VOICST, tout en étant un groupe qualifié de pop/alternatif délivre une prestation dynamique, carrée et inspirée, mais sait aussi proposer des mélodies et paroles facilement assimilables et fredonnables. Après tout, n’est-ce pas là le gage des chansons qui passent l’épreuve du temps ?
On vous a donc proposé ce live report de VOICST, car comme vous l’aurez compris à Zicazic, on estime que ce groupe a un réel potentiel.
Potentiel qui lui a d’ailleurs déjà valu la position qui est la sienne actuellement en Hollande où le groupe jouit d’une certaine popularité et qui l’amène, depuis quelques temps déjà, à sillonner les routes du Monde entier (US, Europe).
Certes, son album « 11-11 » n’est pas encore, distribué en France, mais vous pouvez vous le procurer sans aucun soucis sur le web (ici) ou pour les possesseurs d’un iPod le télécharger officiellement (ici).

Few months ago, your humble servant had already told you about his enthusiasm concerning the Dutch band VOICST (here).
Wishing to carry on this way to let you discover this trio, we had made the trip to Holland in order to meet the band (cf. interview : here) but also to have the chance to see them perform live in front of their own audience in Amsterdam.
It was with this goal in mind that an appointment was made in the mythical Melkweg venue on this Saturday 27th of May.
THE MELKWEG
Few words about this place with such a prestigious story, which for the past 30 years is a main actor in the Amsterdam cultural life and where many artists from all kinds came to.
The MELKWEG (“Milky Way” in English, the building is a former milk factory…) is more than a single concert venue as inside there’re also an art gallery, a theatre, a cinema and a small restaurant/coffee place.
This bunch of artistic activities offer a very interesting melting-pot for anyone coming to this place and who takes the time to discover it, helping to open the mind of the most curious of us.
By the way, we take note of the beverages prices here and that the French venues should imitate, as for example, a beer (standard indicator in this kind of place) is sold at 2.10€.
We’re far from the ashamed prices, often close to 4€, that we have to face in France …
Let’s also have a word about the layout of the hall where VOICST is going to perform. This one is pleasant and warm with among others a balcony where everybody can have the chance to get a nice view in the best conditions.
Finally, to conclude about the MELKWEG we can specify its geographic location, very central (close the Leidseplein place) making it easy to come there, which is really an advantage. We strongly encourage you to discover this place if you’re visiting Amsterdam.
Fine place, where we’ll have the possibility to appreciate the VOICST performance, which is of course the headliner today and will play in front of a sold-out audience.
VOICST LIVE: THE CONFIRMATION
Honestly, it is incredible to which point some products from Holland can lead you to an addiction.
This is exactly the case with VOICST, who, unlike of what you’re thinking of, can be consumed safely with no danger for your health.
On the contrary, the Dutch trio music should be classified in the high energy drugs fighting against moroseness and blues feelings, the whole refunded by National Health Service.
You can abuse of VOICST music without any risks of overdose. It’s what we’ll do tonight, for the one hour set that the band will give us.
The band members, well in place and indeed hardened to play onstage, will give everything they can. As we already mentioned while they were playing the Trabendo (Paris) two months ago, Tjeerd can’t stay in place, moves all-around his scenic place and goes into trance with the songs he interprets.
As assumed, the set-list is made of “11-11” tracks, their first full length album, and songs as “Dazzled Kids” or “Whatever You Want From Life” are truly classics in Holland and unbridled the passions in the audience. It was even later reported that a couple had sex on the balcony! (maybe while “Porn” was played ;-)
The VOICST catalogue, dynamic as hell, fits so well with Joppe drumming, which is made of a powerful touch but right in tune.
However, the band had already shown on album or with live acoustical jam, that it knows how to play calm, soft songs, but without being boring, as with “Detail 2003” which one will permit us to pause for a moment. This song taken from “11-11”, in fact first appears on the “Eat The Evidence” EP released in 2003 (here). As well as “Act Of Fire” the opening act song tonight.
By the way …don’t forgot the classy bass style from Sven, who is full part of the VOISCT presence onstage, but he’s also gifted to be a multi-instrumentalist, switching regularly from his bass to a second guitar.
Unfortunately every good thing has an end and the gig will close on an over high vitamins “Enjoy the Kickback” which will physically finish off the band as well as the audience.
It was certainly one of the shows of the year that made the trip worth it.
The concert tonight will have comforted us with our first impression from last April. VOICST, although classified as a pop/alternative rock band, delivers a dynamic act, well shaped and inspired, but also offers us great melodies with lyrics easy to memorize and sing along. After all, isn’t what makes great songs that survive the time action?
At Zicacic.com we gave you this VOICST live report because as you can now understand it, we think that this band has a huge potential.
Potential that already put the band at the place where it is in Holland, where the band benefits from quite a good following. This popularity also gave VOICST the opportunity to tour worldwide (Europe and US).

Enkele maanden geleden had jullie dienaar u reeds in kennis gesteld van zijn enthousiasme over de Nederlandse band VOICST ( hier)
Gezien het onze wens en taak is u dit drietal te laten ontdekken zijn we naar Nederland afgereisd om ruimer kennis te maken met VOICST. ( cf interview: hier) We hebben van de gelegenheid gebruik gemaakt om ze life op stage te zien, in Amsterdam, voor hun eigen publiek.
Hiervoor is er dan ook een meeting georganiseerd in de legendarische Melkweg, afgelopen zaterdag 27 mei.
DE MELKWEG
Eerst een korte intro over deze plek die al meer dan 30 jaar een belangrijke pion is in het culturele leven van Amsterdam. Artiesten van alle soorten en maten hebben er opgetreden.
De Melkweg, gevestigd in een voormalige melkfabriek, is veel meer dan een concertzaal. Het biedt namelijk ook ruimte voor een kunst galerij, een bioscoop, een theater en ook een restaurantje.
Voor ieder van nieuwsgierige aard, biedt deze culturele melting pot een geweldige kans om er lekker rond te dwalen en verscheidene artistieke activiteiten te bezoeken.
We willen u er ook zeker op attenderen, dat de consumptie prijzen een mooi voorbeeld kunnen stellen voor de Franse concertgelegenheden, gezien een biertje (ideale vergelijkingsmeter) maar 2,10 euro kost. Dat is toch een wereld van verschil met de schandalige Franse prijzen die eerder bij de 4 euro te zoeken zijn.
Dat terzijde, de zaal waar VOICST vanavond zal optreden is meer dan leuk en gezellig. Het balkon biedt aan ieder de gelegenheid het spektakel op zijn best bij te wonen. Om over de Melkweg af te sluiten, willen wij benadrukken dat de locatie ultra centraal is (bij het Leidseplein). Dit is zeker een pluspunt. Alles is hier dus aanwezig om tijdens een bezoekje aan Amsterdam, absoluut ook een tripje naar de Melkweg in te plannen.
De ideale omstandigheden dus, om optimaal van de performance van VOICST te genieten. De band is vanavond natuurlijk het hoofdprogramma en zal voor een boordenvolle zaal spelen.
VOICST LIVE: DE BEVESTIGING
Dit is weer eens een ideaal voorbeeld van producten uit Holland die verslavend zijn.
Dat is namelijk zeker het geval van VOICST, en in tegenstelling tot waar-jullie-aan-denken, is VOICST niet schadelijk voor de gezondheid, ook niet bij overmatig gebruik. Eigenlijk zou de muziek van dit trio opgenomen moeten worden als medicijn, dankzij de dynamiserende, anti-blues en oppeppende bestanddelen. En natuurlijk zou het vergoed worden door het Ziekenfonds.
Geniet zoveel je maar wilt, OD is niet mogelijk. Dit gaan wij vanavond zeker doen, tijdens de één uur durende show van de band.
De 3 leden van de groep, die duidelijk op het podium horen, gaan alles uit zich halen.
Zoals we al zeiden tijdens hun presentatie in Trabendo, is Tjeerd niet te houden, maakt 120% gebruik van de ruimte on stage en gaat geheel in trance onder de nummers die hij zingt.
De set-list is natuurlijk een prachtige vertegenwoordiging van “11 – 11“ het eerste album. Titels zoals “Dazzled Kids“ of “Whatever You Want From Life“ zijn mega hits hier in Nederland, en het publiek gaat dan ook helemaal uit zijn dak.
Wij krijgen zelfs te horen dat ergens op het balkon een stelletje goed bezig is geweest, (was dit toevallig tijdens “Porn” ?)
Het energieke repertoire van VOICST past perfect bij de performance van Joppe, de drummer. Hij laat een krachtige, maar perfecte beat horen.
Dit gezegd, zoals ze al bewezen hebben, op album, maar ook live, is de band ook in staat rustige stukken te spelen, zonder daarbij in het sapzoetige te vallen. Het nummer “Detail 2003” is daar een mooi voorbeeld van. Dit nummer staat dan wel op “11 – 11”, het is in eerste instantie uitgebracht op de EP “Eat the Evidence” uit 2003 (hier). Dit geldt ook voor “Act of Fire” waarmee het trio vanavond van start ging.
Laten we de geweldige prestaties van Sven niet vergeten. Hij is niet alleen een onmisbaar stage element, maar laat ook blijken dat hij een first class multi-instrumentalist is. Hij verlaat dan ook regelmatig zijn bass gitaar om zich om de 2de gitaar te ontfermen. Helaas komt ook aan al het goede een einde, en deze gig wordt afgesloten met “Enjoy the Kickback”. De groep zet alles in, en niet alleen zij, maar ook het publiek gaat door tot ze er bij neervallen.
Dit was zeker één van de concerten van dit jaar met een ultra hoog must-have-been-there gehalte.
De show vanavond heeft zeker onze eerste indrukken van april gesterkt. VOICST is niet alleen geweldig op het gebied van pop/alernatieve rock, maar zet ook een dynamische en geinspireerde performance neer, en weet ook melodïen en lyrics te crëeren die goed te onthouden zijn en waar men graag op mee zingt. Zijn dit niet de juiste ingredïenten om de proef van de tijd te doorstaan ?
Wij hebben dus voor u deze live reportage van VOICST samengesteld, want zoals u het al het vermoeden heeft, vinden wij bij Zicazic, dat deze band het echt gaat maken.
Dit potentieel is al gebleken in hun thuis basis Nederland, waar de populariteit van VOICST blijft toenemen. Sinds enige tijd brengt hun populariteit ze ook rond de wereld (US, Europa).
Weliswaar is het album “11 – 11” in Frankrijk nog niet beschikbaar, maar u kunt het moeiteloos legaal van het net halen (hier)
